RenMor & Sustainability

Celebrating the best of Cornwall

‘Sustainability’ can be a bit of a greenwashing phrase. But our connection to land and sea is central to everything we do at RenMor. Celebrating the best of Cornwall also means preserving it and encouraging it. So we’re committed to serving sustainable food that is good for the environment, our customers, and our community.

EarthCheck

In early 2023 we partnered with EarthCheck; the world’s leading environmental certification and benchmarking programme for the travel and tourism industry. Using a science-based approach, EarthCheck will help us increase efficiencies, maximise guest experience and minimise everyone’s environmental footprint. This will be a journey that we will be delighted to share with you as we make changes to the impact we have on our beautiful Cornish environment.

Some of the ways we’re working to reduce our environmental impact:

  • We currently compost 100% of our food waste. We are now focussing on reducing the amount of food waste we produce in the first place through weekly analysis of the food waste weight.

  • We try to avoid disposable packaging, and recycle everything we can with our partner Suez.

  • Removing the use of tablecloths for breakfast and dinner services, to reduce the volume of energy-hungry laundering that is done.

  • From mid summer 2023 our aim is that Restaurant RenMor will be entirely powered by the beautiful Cornish sunshine.  We continue to work on reducing our energy consumption, and are proud of the efforts we have made to date.

  • All our new uniforms have been sustainably sourced from NAECO, a supplier who offers recycled cotton and PET in their uniforms.

  • The flowers and foliage used in Restaurant RenMor are all sustainably sourced from local Cornish growers.

  • We use local fish suppliers who catch their haul using sustainable practices such as line caught mackerel.

Sourcing from Cornish land and water

We get most of our ingredients from Cornwall, some from just down the road. Lower food miles, better taste, better for the local economy. We prioritise sourcing from ethical suppliers and support businesses committed to:

  • Using sustainable farming practices

  • Treating their animals humanely

  • Paying their workers the real living wage

  • Reducing their environmental impact

Supporting, promoting and boosting the local community

Restaurant RenMor is committed to supporting the local community, through a variety of means:

  • Ensuring all staff over 18 years old are paid the Real Living Wage, not minimum wage.

  • Offering well paid summer placement training schemes for Cornish youngsters aged 14-16 years old.

  • Ensuring that 100% of the optional service charge and tips is passed onto the whole team, excluding the senior management and directors.

  • Continuing the support of the local FoodBank and DISC Newquay with the provision of weekly fresh fruit for the +2,500 meals that are distributed in the local community to those most in need.

  • Offering apprenticeships up to masters degree level to all staff who wish to take up accredited training, from levels 2 up to 7, whilst maintaining their usual rate of pay.

Stay for Dinner

Our menus change with the seasons. They’re rooted in provenance, trusted relationships with local suppliers, and letting beautiful Cornish ingredients shine. Check the blackboards for specials inspired by good stuff coming in on the day, try a big sharing plate for two, or order a whole Native lobster fresh from the north Cornwall coast.
